Why I joined Superpower

A letter on a hard hit to the head, 115 feet on one breath, and health as the thing everything else rests on.

I came to Superpower because I am health obsessed.

I had a couple of intense health events during my late teens that changed how I approach my personal health. One was a hard hit to my head. After that I felt a diminished ability to process the things around me. I lost a bit of the feeling of what it was to be myself. When I turned 21 I decided to prioritize my health. I started emphasizing sleep, eating well, movement, time in nature, all things that I treated as optional before.

Once I became accustomed to feeling good, I wanted to keep feeling that way.

To me, health is foundational in how we experience life — how well we can move, how resilient we are to stressors, the amount of time we are able to share with our loved ones. I believe we’re entering a world where we’ll have the tools to better understand and overcome our physical and mental ailments, so everyone can live healthy lives, unshackled from disease.

What makes me so excited about Superpower is that we treat everyone as unique. We see and acknowledge the complexities and individuality of everyone. At Superpower, I found people who think like I do. People who have a rabid hunger for bringing health to the masses. Who really really care about the mission.

I spend a lot of my time thinking about health and performance. Outside of that, I try to be a jack of all trades and am certainly a master of none. Recently, I added pottery to my long list of hobbies including free diving (I went 115 feet below the surface on a single breath this year), cooking, reading, gardening, piano, and almost any outdoor activity.

Nature is the place where I feel most connected and joined with the universe. I could spend all day watching the way the sun dances and glints off the ocean. I love nothing more than a sunset in the mountains. I also love classical music and listen to Bach almost every day.

I am excited to be at a place that shares my health obsession and with a group dedicated to bringing better health to everyone. I look forward to shaping the experience with them and building the tools to help us all live our best lives.
